I qualified in Medicine in Dublin, with specialist training in Dublin, London and Edinburgh. I have been a Consultant specialist in Gastroenterology since 1995, working initially in Fife and now at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Spire Edinburgh Hospitals.

I have broad experience in general Gastroenterology and specialist expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy and enteroscopy. I have a subspecialty interest in oesophageal disorders, irritable bowel syndrome and other disorders of the gut nervous system, including expertise in oesophageal physiology techniques.

I work in Spire Shawfair Park's endoscopy suite which holds JAG accreditation.

I am a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, and I am Professional Lead for Gastroenterology at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Special Clinical Interests: Oesophageal disease and upper gastrointestinal disorders, including gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and swallowing problems. Disorders of the gut nervous system including irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia Inflammatory bowel disease. Investigation of iron-deficiency anaemia. I performs upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy to investigate a wide variety of gastrointestinal symptoms, including dyspepsia, abdominal pain, weight loss and alteration in bowel function. I perform oesophageal manometry and ambulatory ph monitoring to investigate oesophageal disease.
