Mr Robin Gupta
Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon
BSc (Hons), MBBS, FRCSEng (Gen), FRCSEd
I am a Consultant Surgeon specialising in General and Colorectal surgery. I practice at Spire Claremont Hospital on Tuesday evening.
My main interests include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), colonoscopy, bowel cancer screening, hernia surgery, ano-rectal surgery (including complex anal fistula, haemorrhoids including HALO procedure and fissures), procedures for pilonidal sinus, lumps and bumps and surgical nutrition.
I graduated from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine of the University of London in 1992. Following house and casualty posts, I entered the Basic Surgical rotation at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, working at Great Ormond Street, the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals.
After passing the primary FRCS examinations, I undertook specialist surgical training on the Cambridge rotation, passing the intercollegiate specialty board examinations while working as a Senior Surgical Registrar at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. During this time I spent a year working as a Surgical Fellow in Perth, Western Australia, where I specialised in the treatment of major surgical trauma.
Having been awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training, I was awarded a travelling bursary by Addenbrookes Hospital to visit Minnesota in North America where I furthered my education under the tutelage of the University of Minnesota Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Following my return, I was appointed as Consultant Surgeon to the Chesterfield Royal Hospital in April 2003, where I am lead clinician for Colorectal Cancer and lead surgeon for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
