I am a Consultant Hepatologist working at the University Hospital of Wales since 2015. I manage patients with all types of acute and chronic liver diseases and I am a competent endoscopist (including endoscopic management of varices).

I completed my specialist training in Hepatology at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. I was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Homerton College, University of Cambridge after the successful completion of my research in the largest UK wide population based study in PSC, to identify the clinical characteristics and the role of genetic risk factors in Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC).

I am the clinical lead for liver services at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. I lead the RCP accredited ‘Improving Quality in Liver Services’ (IQILS) initiative here and I am also the Consultant Alcohol prevention champion. I am an active member of the Wales National Liver Disease Implementation Group, which works towards improving the standards of liver disease care in Wales.

My thorough training has enabled me to gain substantial clinical experience in different types of liver diseases such as metabolic and autoimmune liver disease; non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis as well as alcohol related liver disease. I have performed over 2000 endosocopies (upper and lower GI) and I am competent in endoscopic management of oesophageal and gastric varices as per standards set by the British Society of Gastroenterology. I also perform ERCP in my NHS practice.

My sub-specialist research interest is in autoimmune and cholestatic liver diseases and I am the local principal investigator for the UK-PBC and UK-PSC studies. I have set up and lead the pathway for second line therapy for primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) in Wales. I believe in prudent healthcare and patient centered care and involve them in the decision making process about their health.
