Mr Lee Van Rensburg

I am a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow conditions, offering private consultations and surgery in Cambridge at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital.

I treat patients with a wide range of shoulder and elbow problems, including pain, instability, sports injuries, arthritis and fractures. I use both keyhole (arthroscopic) and open surgical techniques and have focused predominantly on shoulder and elbow surgery since 2006. Alongside my private practice, I hold a full‑time NHS consultant post at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

My practice focuses on diagnosing and treating shoulder pain, reduced movement, recurrent shoulder dislocations and instability, rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder and arthritis of the shoulder. I treat sports‑related shoulder injuries, fractures of the shoulder, collarbone and upper arm and tendon or cartilage injuries affecting the shoulder.

I also specialise in a variety of elbow conditions. This includes keyhole elbow surgery, treatment for tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow, elbow joint replacement where appropriate, and care for elbow stiffness, arthritis and cartilage damage.

I completed my primary medical training in 1993 at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. After moving to the United Kingdom in 1996, I completed my Basic surgical training at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds and completed my Higher surgical training on the East Anglian orthopaedic rotation (Cambridge) in 2005. I undertook a fellowship predominantly in trauma at the Alfred hospital, Melbourne, Australia in 2006.

Trauma surgery is a long‑standing area of interest for me. I regularly treat fractures and complex injuries involving the shoulder, upper arm, collarbone, elbow and forearm. I was involved in establishing the Addenbrooke’s Orthopaedic Trauma Unit, a specialist service dedicated to the care of patients with multiple and severe injuries.
