Professional profile

I have been a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust for 15 years. For the last four years I have been the Clinical Lead. Prior to my appointment I trained in Leicester, Southampton, Portsmouth and Adelaide, Australia.

I specialise in vascular surgery with a specific interest in minimally invasive procedures. In particular the management of varicose veins with keyhole techniques including, endovenous thermal ablation, VNUS closure, Venefit, endovenous laser ablation, FOAM sclerotherapy and endovenous glue (Venaseal). I was at the forefront of the development of endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) in the UK in the 1990s and have published extensively on this topic.

Cambridge Vascular Unit is well recognised as one of the leading departments in the UK. We are consistently one of the busiest for major vascular surgery with excellent results. Individual unit and surgeon levels results have been published and are in the public domain. My results are available here:

I am the Clinical Lead for the Vascular Network that includes West Suffolk, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn. I am a member of the Clinical Reference Group (CRG) for vascular surgery which provides advice to NHS England as to how specialist vascular services should be delivered (2016-current).
