Mr Cornelius Rene

I am an experienced Ophthalmic Surgeon in Cambridge, specialising in oculoplastic surgery (eyelid plastic surgery), lacrimal (tear duct) surgery and orbital (eye socket) surgery.

I qualified at Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London in 1985 and have been practising ophthalmology since 1987. After completing junior ophthalmology training in London and the Southeast, I did a spell of research followed by Higher Surgical Training in ophthalmology in Birmingham and the West Midlands region. Two subspecialty training fellowships followed at Queen’s Medical Centre (Nottingham) and Moorfields Eye Hospital (London) respectively, before I was appointed to my consultant post in Cambridge in 1998. My NHS practice is based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).

I am a founder member, former Treasurer and Past President of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS). My work encompasses all aspects of eyelid plastic surgery, tear duct surgery and eye socket surgery.

I have published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals. I have been a visiting consultant on the Lifeline Express Teaching Programme in China since 2013 and a faculty member of the Lifeline Express International Academy of Eye Health. I am also a trustee of the Cambridge Eye Trust.
