Professional profile

Alan Norrish has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2007, and has performed over 5,000 operations. His extensive experience in the sub-specialty of lower limb covers the areas of hip, knee and ankle.

Areas of expertise: • Specialising in treating conditions that cause pain in the hips and knees ankles • Working extensively in adult reconstructive surgery such as hip and knee replacement and ankle fusion • Working extensively in the complex area of revision joint replacement • Limb and ligament reconstruction following trauma, or as a result of deformity • Management and treatment of sport injuries, in particular injuries to the knee joint including ligament reconstruction and the treatment of patella instability • Expert in the treatment of orthopaedic infections

Mr Norrish has also worked extensively in Africa, Middle East, and Afghanistan where he used his skills to help patients, suffering from extensive trauma injuries, to achieve mobility and improve their quality of life. This work regularly included the management of infections and as a result he is a leading expert in the treatment of chronic bone and joint infections at Cambridge University Hospital. Mr Norrish continues to engage in international work, which currently involves training surgeons in Africa and Asia.
