Your consultations and diagnostic tests

Before your treatment, you’ll meet your consultant in one of our 26 consultation rooms. All our rooms are accessible, so there’s no need to worry if walking is difficult for you. They’ll ask about your health, symptoms and answer any questions you may have.

You'll need to have several diagnostic tests before surgery to ensure that TAVI is the right procedure for you. These tests include:

  • A CT scan of your heart and your arteries
  • An angiogram (also known as a cardiac catheterisation) to make sure your coronary arteries are clear and they are not the cause of your symptoms

Both your initial consultation and tests at this stage are charged separately to the cost of any treatment needed.

If you decide to go ahead with treatment, your consultant will advise you about:

  • What your personalised treatment and care plan will involve
  • Anaesthetic options
  • Potential risks and complications and how they apply to you
  • Things you can do to help prepare for surgery and to help your recovery

The treatment described on this page may be adapted to meet your individual needs, so it's important to follow your healthcare professional's advice and raise any questions that you may have with them.
