After receiving his medical degree from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in 1984, Dr. El Miedany completed an internship at the University Hospitals. He furthered his training in rheumatology at the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases, Royal Infirmary, Glasgow University; where he carried out his MD thesis about pulmonary affection in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and whether it is genetically related. Dr. El Miedany got Diploma in internal medicine, Master degree and MD in Rheumatology. Dr. El Miedany has been appointed Professor of Rheumatology and Rehabilitation, Ain Shams University, Egypt, since 2005 and currently he is the Consultant Rheumatologist at Darent Valley Hospital and Medway Hospital, England. Dr. El Miedany has special interest in Musculoskeletal ultrasonography, a growing speciality in the rheumatology field. He has published several manuscripts studying this tool of assessment. Introducing musculoskeletal ultrasonography into the daily rheumatology clinic has attracted several GPs to refer to their patients for assessment and management under care of Dr. El Miedany. Leading Flag for Rheumatology service: The rheumatology service provided by Dr. El Miedany's team at Darent Valley hospital, England, has been highly appreciated by the patients who rated the service as excellent on the NHS patient choices website. Also the Rheumatology centre at the hospital lead by Dr. El Miedany was chosen the Centre of Excellence for the south of England (one of 3 centres in England). In 2011, rheumatology service at DVH lead by Dr. El Miedany has been chosen by the PCT the best rheumatology service model in Kent.
Dr. El Miedany runs a specialized hand clinic. to provide comprehensive care for hand and wrist conditions. Patients with hand joint or soft tissue pain or swelling, weakness, limited or painful movement, tingling or numbness of the hands or morning stiffness should be referred to the clinic. The Hand Clinic provides convenient access to diagnostic services, such as nerve conduction testing, radiology, musculoskeletal US as well as treatment. Close coordination occurs between the Hand Clinic and the orthopedic and hand surgery as well as physiotherapy teams. The aim is to promote continuity and convenience for patients with hand problems.
