Mr Ian King

Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

MA (Oxon) MBBS MRCS FRCS (Plast.)

Specialises in

I am a fully qualified UK-trained Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. Having been awarded the intercollegiate Fellowship in Plastic Surgery to the Royal College of Surgeons, I am on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery, and I am a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).

My training has been extensive. I have completed five higher surgical fellowships: in aesthetic surgery (awarded the BAAPS/BAPRAS Aesthetic Fellowship at the Cadogan Clinic, London); in microsurgery (Queen Victoria Hospital (QVH), East Grinstead and The Royal Marsden, London); in extremity reconstruction (Imperial Hospitals, London); and in skin cancer surgery and reconstruction (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London). These posts gave me excellent experience in trauma and cancer management and reconstruction, aesthetic surgery and in developing advanced microsurgical skills.

As a full-time Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the QVH, I am an active member of the Sussex specialist skin cancer team and the clinical governance lead for plastic surgery.  Additionally, I hold an Honorary Consultant post at University Hospitals Sussex where I provide specialist reconstructive services focusing on lower limb trauma, cardiothoracic reconstruction and complex wound management.

I have a keen interest in medical education; as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, I have established and run weekly clinical medical student plastics teaching at the major trauma centre in Brighton. Furthermore, I am widely published in the medical literature having authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles, 6 book chapters and have presented over 80 scientific papers nationally and internationally. I am a peer reviewer for three major plastic surgery journals, Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, and the European Journal of Plastic Surgery.

I am well known for my approachability, gentle manner and for putting patient care and wellbeing at the centre of my care. I use my experience and surgical skills to get the very best result for each and every patient.
