- Hospital catering team recognised with a Gold CAP Award for patient dining excellence
Spire Wellesley Hospital in Southend-on-Sea has been awarded the Gold Award for Catering by the Continuous Advancement Programme (CAP) Award Programme.
The prestigious award follows the latest unannounced assessment of the catering services provided to patients and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the hospital team. CAP Inspectors reviewed all aspects of the patient dining experience, from food quality and menu choice to service delivery on the wards.
The assessment highlighted the hospital’s continued improvement in patient feedback, with inspectors noting that feedback has improved year on year across all four years that the hospital has participated in the CAP Award Programme. This sustained progress reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the patient experience through high-quality catering services.

During the assessment, inspectors reported hearing consistent praise directly from patients for the catering team, particularly recognising their attention to detail and their endeavours to ensure individual dietary needs and preferences were met. Patients also complimented the team on the excellent variety of tasty food available on the menu, noting both quality and choice as key strengths.
The CAP Inspector, said: “This Gold Award reinforces Spire Wellesley Hospital’s commitment to excellence in patient care and its recognition that high-quality food and service play a vital role in recovery and overall wellbeing.”
