Mr Vickram Joypaul

I am a General Surgeon with a specialist referral practice in laparoscopic (keyhole), colorectal and gastrointestinal surgery. I qualified in 1984 from Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee, and have since developed a broad range of surgical skills to support patients with both routine and more complex conditions.

My early training took place in North West England, where I worked as a Senior House Officer, followed by registrar training in Edinburgh. I then returned to Dundee to complete my MD and Senior Registrar training. In 1999, I was appointed as a Consultant in South Tyneside, where I continue to practise.

I regularly treat conditions affecting the digestive system, including those involving the bowel and gastrointestinal tract. I have a particular interest in laparoscopic, or keyhole, surgery, which uses small incisions and can help support recovery in suitable cases.

Alongside this, I carry out a wide range of general surgical procedures. These include hernia repairs, varicose vein surgery and vasectomies, as well as the assessment and removal of common lumps and bumps. I also perform gastroscopy, a procedure used to examine the oesophagus and stomach, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which is the removal of the gallbladder using keyhole techniques.
