MBBS(Ncl) FRCS(Urol)
I attended medical school at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and completed my basic urological training in the East of England before returning to the North East for higher surgical training. During my final year of training, I developed a specialist interest in laser surgery for benign prostate enlargement.
I was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2018. My specialist interests include the surgical management of benign prostate enlargement, prostate diagnostics, health economics and improving patient pathways to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment.
I have played a key role in developing local anaesthetic transperineal prostate template biopsy services and introducing transurethral laser ablation (TULA) for bladder tumours. I have published and presented research nationally and internationally and have acted as an advisor to NICE on health technology assessments. I have also contributed to national GIRFT guidance relating to TULA.
I am committed to medical education and have a particular passion for training the next generation of surgeons in laser surgery techniques. In 2024, I was appointed College Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
My clinical practice includes the management of benign prostate enlargement and bladder conditions, and I perform procedures including TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate), UroLift, prostate biopsy and TURBT (transurethral resection of bladder tumours). I am also Lead for the Active Surveillance Programme for prostate cancer.
Alongside my clinical work, I strive to provide clear, personalised care, ensuring patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options and are fully involved in decisions about their care.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, who is a GP, and our daughter. My hobbies include swimming and squash.
