Mr Guy Wynne-Jones

I am a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon at Spire Washington Hospital, where I specialise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of spinal conditions for patients across the North East. My practice covers everything from minimally invasive procedures to more complex reconstructive surgery for degenerative conditions affecting the spine.

I treat back and neck pain involving the cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back) and lumbar (lower back) regions. This includes conditions such as slipped discs, spinal degeneration and infection, as well as fractures caused by osteoporosis. I regularly perform procedures including microdiscectomy, which removes part of a slipped disc to relieve pressure on the nerves, spinal fusion to stabilise the spine, and kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty to treat vertebral fractures. I also offer pain management treatments, such as facet joint and targeted spinal injections, to help relieve symptoms and improve function.

I graduated from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 1993. I also hold a BSc and a PhD in Neurosciences from the University of London, reflecting my long-standing interest in the science behind neurological conditions.

I completed my neurosurgical training in the West Midlands before undertaking an advanced spinal fellowship at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. During this time, I developed expertise in both neurosurgical and orthopaedic spinal techniques, allowing me to offer a broad and comprehensive approach to spinal care. I was appointed as a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon in Newcastle in 2008.
