Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon based in Newcastle upon Tyne, and I specialise in diagnosing and treating complex back and neck conditions. I offer both surgical and non-surgical treatment options, and I always focus on providing care that is tailored to each individual. My aim is to understand your specific concerns and help improve your quality of life through safe, effective and evidence-based treatment.
I assess and manage a wide range of spinal problems. These include slipped or herniated discs, sciatica, and spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal canal. I also treat degenerative spine disease, spinal fractures, and conditions affecting the nerves such as cervical radiculopathy (often causing pain down the arm, sometimes called brachialgia) and lumbar radiculopathy (commonly known as sciatica). In addition, I manage spondylolisthesis, where one of the bones in the spine slips out of position.
I completed my medical degree (MBBS) in India before moving to the North East of England in 2005, where I undertook higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics. During this time, I gained broad experience across orthopaedic trauma and a number of subspecialties before focusing on spinal surgery.
To further develop my expertise, I completed an AO Spine Fellowship in Brisbane, Australia. This advanced training helped me build specialist skills in managing conditions such as degenerative disc disease, spinal trauma, infections and spinal tumours.
My specialist practice includes procedures such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), as well as cervical disc replacement. I also treat degenerative conditions of both the lumbar (lower back) and cervical (neck) spine, and I perform procedures including lumbar discectomy and lumbar decompression, with or without spinal fusion where appropriate. I am also experienced in providing medico-legal consultations related to spinal conditions.
