D.Clin.Psy.
Specialises in
I am a clinical psychologist with 17 years of experience, gained through my work in the NHS and in independent practice. Over this time, I have developed a broad understanding of a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, phobias, depression, eating disorders and weight management. I also have specific experience supporting people who are considering or have undergone bariatric surgery.
In 2016, I co-founded Select Psychology in Tynemouth, where I continue to run a regular clinic. Since leaving the NHS in 2020, I have focused fully on my independent practice, while continuing to work in line with NICE guidance and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with NHS professionals.
I aim to create a warm, friendly and supportive environment where you feel comfortable talking openly about your concerns. My approach is always non-judgemental, and I believe in working collaboratively with you to understand your experiences and goals.
Together, we will develop a personalised plan that helps you build practical coping strategies and gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts and behaviours. My aim is to support you in making meaningful changes and achieving the outcomes that matter most to you.
I have particular expertise in psychological assessments both before and after bariatric surgery, as well as supporting individuals with weight management needs. Since 2009, I have completed more than 450 psychological assessments for bariatric and cosmetic surgery, working closely with surgical teams and hospital staff to provide a thorough and responsive service.
At Spire Washington Hospital, I provide consultations specifically for patients undergoing bariatric surgery.
I am trained in a range of evidence-based therapies and tailor my approach to suit your individual needs. These include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns; compassion-focused therapy, which helps build self-kindness and resilience; acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), which supports you in living in line with your values; and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapy designed to help process and recover from distressing experiences.
