Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MBBS, MS, MRCS, Dip Sports Med, FRCS (Tr & Ortho), PgC Innovation and Performance
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Shibu Krishnan at Spire include:
I am a Consultant Hip Surgeon. I specialise in knee and hip surgery with particular interests in knee arthroscopy, knee cartilage repair, partial knee replacement, total knee replacement, total hip replacement, revision knee replacement, revision hip replacement, minimally invasive surgery, sports injuries of the knee, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and trauma surgery.
I perform approximately 100 total hip replacements every year and a large proportion of these operations are carried out using a minimally invasive surgical approach. I perform approximately 100 total knee replacements per year and a significant number of partial knee replacement surgeries. I undertake approximately 150 knee arthroscopic surgeries and 40 arthroscopic (keyhole) ACL (Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery) reconstruction surgery every year. Besides these, I also specialise in complex revision (re-do) hip and knee replacement surgeries for failed hip and knee replacements.
I served as a patient safety lead ( clinical governance lead) for Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Buckinghamshire NHS trust for three years. I am a Consultant Knee Surgeon working at the BMI Chitern and BMI Shelburne hospitals in Buckinghamshire.
After obtaining my primary medical degree and Master of Science degree in Orthopaedics, I carried out a Clinical Research Fellowship at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. Mr Krishnan completed his Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the prestigious North-West London Thames training programme (St Mary’s – Charing Cross Rotation). I then undertook subspecialty training by doing several reputable fellowships including the Lower Limb Fellowship (Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital), British Orthopaedic Association Transitional Fellowship in hip and knee.
During this period, I developed an interest in novel procedures for repairing damaged knee joint cartilage and cartilage implantation techniques. His other areas of research interests include the use of custom jigs for joint replacement surgery. I am also heavily involved with teaching and training, am an Associate member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and am a reviewer for the Bone and Joint Journal.
