I graduated in medicine from King's College Hospital, University of London, in 1997. Subsequently, I completed the King's College Basic Surgical Rotation and obtained my MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. I became a registrar in cardiothoracic surgery at St Thomas' Hospital and King's College Hospital, and was then awarded a clinical research fellowship at the British Heart Foundation Laboratories of Professor Ajay Shah at King's College Hospital and Medical School.

Having completed my MD Clinical Research Fellowship in 2005, I was awarded my MD from the University of London and was awarded the Arris and Gale Lectureship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2009-10). I then completed my national higher surgical training in cardiothoracic surgery at St Bartholomew's, London Chest, Royal Brompton, Manchester Royal Infirmary and Harefield Hospital. I was awarded my FRCS (CTh) and returned as a senior registrar at Imperial College. I was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Senior Lecturer at St George's Hospital and Medical School in 2013.

I initiated and co-founded, The London Core Review Course in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2011, aiming to improve knowledge and training among cardiothoracic trainees and surgeons in the UK. This annual course has international delegates and faculty and is a four-day course held at the Royal College of Surgeons comprehensively covering the syllabus for the FRCS (CTh) exam and revalidation in cardiothoracic surgery.

Mr Momin is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed articles, international presentations and published abstracts. He is also a frequent speaker at national and international forums. He is on the regular review board of The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery and Perfusion. He has been awarded numerous prizes including the American Heart Association 2004 Novartis Prize, the European Society of Cardiology Bench to Bedside Prize 2005 and the HCA Travel fellowship 2012.
