I am a consultant renal physician based at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George's University of London. I am a Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton.
I have a longstanding specialist interest in chronic kidney disease (CKD). My main focus is on improving the treatment of kidney disease in primary care. My areas of interest include Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD); Hypertension and kidney disorders.
I was clinical lead for the bid to the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership for a National Clinical Audit of CKD in primary care. I have worked with colleagues to make CKD a Clinical Priority for 2013-2016 with Royal College of General Practitioners. I was a member of the Guideline Development Groups for the 2014 NICE CKD Guideline on CKD and 2018 NICE Guideline on Renal Replacement Therapy. I helped to develop the evidence base for quality improvement in CKD through leading and participating in a number of multicentre research and improvement projects funded by the Health Foundation, NIHR and British Heart Foundation. I was a member of the Work Group developing a National Renal Research Strategy, and am leading the ATTACK trial of aspirin for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in CKD.
I am a member of several professional and scientific committees and currently co-chairs the Kidney Health Partnership Board, where the major national kidney patient charities & professional organisations are represented alongside NHS England & Public Health England.
