I am a Professor and Consultant in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. I am also head of the Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology department at University Hospital Southampton. This department is recognised internationally as a “Centre of Excellence” by the World Allergy Organisation. I am Director of the Internationally renowned Asthma and Allergy Research Centre on the Isle of Wight. I have coauthored American and European guidelines for allergy, as well as several books and book chapters and published around 350 articles in scientific journals.
I specialise in asthma and allergic diseases with specific clinical and research interests in asthma, hay fever, anaphylaxis and food allergy. I am an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of allergy related conditions such as asthma, rhinitis (hay fever), eczema (dermatitis), urticaria (hives) and angioedema, and allergic reactions to foods and insects. I provide allergy diagnostics including allergy skin tests and allergen specific immunotherapy treatments such as desensitisation to pollen and house dust mite.
I have been practicing allergy and respiratory medicine since 1988. I have performed thousands of diagnostics and treatment procedures. I have also trained a large number of trainee registrars and research fellows who have since been appointed consultants and professors in various institutions in the UK and US.
I teach Food Allergy to MSc Allergy students at University of Southampton. I have been an External Examiner for a number of MSC and PhD candidates for UK and US universities. I am chief investigator for two large UK-wide clinical trials investigating prevention and treatment of asthma and food allergy using allergen Immunotherapy. I am vice Chair of the National Adult Strategy Group, a consortium of UK allergy specialists

I am married with two children. My wife Zaheda is an arts teacher, my daughter Zobia is a young trainee doctor and my son Telha has just qualified as a Lawyer. My interests include biking, running, playing Table Tennis and reading a good book.
