I consult and operate on a wide range of general ENT problems. I have a special interest in ear conditions including; hearing and balance disorders, tinnitus, chronic ear disease and cholesteatoma in both adults and children. I perform a wide range of ear surgery, including open and closed cavity mastoid procedures and surgery for otosclerosis. I also have a special interest in children’s ENT including grommets, adenoid and tonsillar surgery, prominent ears (pinnaplasty) and airway disorders.
I was appointed ENT Consultant to Southampton University Hospital in 2001, and to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital Winchester in 2003. I also hold an honorary contract at Salisbury Hospital.
I undertook my postgraduate training in London including the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, St George’s Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurosurgery. I developed my paediatric interest with training at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. I spent a year as the first English Otology/Ear Surgery Fellow at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne Australia, where I further developed my expertise in ear surgery.
I was awarded the Journal of Laryngology and Otology Fellowship, the Lionel Colledge Fellowship, the Kings Fund Fellowship and the Ethicon Fellowship for further training at the Portmann Ear Institute, Bordeaux and the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles, USA.
I continue to have research and teaching interests.I have written a book “Essential ENT” published in the UK and many other countries worldwide, which won the Asher Prize for Medical Writers from the Society of Authors. I have contributed to a number of other ENT Textbooks and Journals and has been Deputy Editor of ENT NEWS.
