"I enjoy working at the Spire Southampton because of the excellent facilities and the helpful, friendly and professional staff."
I have been a consultant vascular surgeon since 2019. I have a specialist interest in major aortic interventions, and since starting my consultant practice have been one of the highest volume and safest aortic surgeons in the country.
Whilst being experienced in general vascular surgery, my specialist interest is aortic intervention. This involves open and endovascular (or keyhole) surgery of the major arteries in the chest and in the abdomen, for aneurysmal disease and aortic dissection.
I work closely with colleagues in interventional radiology and cardiothoracic surgery to provide a multidisciplinary approach to theses conditions. I am also experienced in the management of general vascular conditions, and have a broad scope of practice outside of my specialist interest.
According to national outcomes data, I am consistently annually amongst the top 10 highest volume, lowest mortality aortic surgeons in the country when all aortic operations of all complexity are considered.
I am the Clinical lead for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight National Aortic Screening programme. I am also the lead for Vascular Trauma for the Wessex Trauma Network. I am research lead for the Wessex Vascular Network.
As well as my clinical work I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton. As well as research work with the University of Southampton, I am principle investigator for a number of national clinical trials and have collaborations with Lille University Hospital’s Aortic Centre, France and The Department of Vasuclar Surgery at Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
I am part of the South Coast Complex Exentration Team, involved in complex cancer resections when major blood vessels are involved and often need to be reconstructed.
