Miss Morgan Bailey

Consultant Children's and Adolescent Knee Surgeon

MBBCh BSc FRCS(Orth)

I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in children’s and young adult knee surgery. I have a passion for keeping young people active and engaged in their sport whilst respecting the differences and challenges that are associated with growing children.

I graduated from Cardiff Medical School in 2011 and trained across London, Oxford and Wessex. I completed a paediatric orthopaedic fellowship at University Hospital Southampton. I also completed a research fellowship for the British Association for Surgery on the Knee, with a focus on patellofemoral pathology for which I was awarded the BASK President’s Award in 2022.

I work at Southampton Children’s Hospital and Portsmouth University Hospitals managing the full spectrum of knee pathology in under 18's. Most conditions requiring surgical management can be done so arthroscopically, irrespective of the size/age of the child. I provide an acute knee service for children across both sites and work closely with physiotherapists within the hospitals and the community to provide multidisciplinary care for children with knee problems.

My main research interest is in ACL injuries in women and teenage girls. I chair the Women’s ACL Orthopaedic Steering Group. This is national group linked with the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Association for Surgery of the Knee, looking to increase the evidence base relating to ACL injuries and their management in this patient group. I have presented my work both nationally and internationally.

I am a trustee for the charity Power up to Play, an injury prevention charity advocating an evidence based warm up to reduce serious knee injuries in children. I work closely with local sports clubs to support injury prevention. I also work with a national strategy group targeting injury prevention.
