"Working at Spire Southampton Hospital is a rewarding experience, as it allows me to practice medicine that prioritises excellence, is responsive, and where continuity is valued."
I have a been a consultant Respiratory physician at a major teaching hospital since 2012. I undertook undergraduate training in Medicine at the University of Cambridge, (Queens’ College) 1995-98, I completed my clinical training at the University of Oxford (Magdalen College) 1998-2001. My house jobs were in Oxford and Bath, I then completed my senior house offer posts in London at St Thomas’ Hospital.
Having completed my MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians) I undertook a senior fellow post at the Royal Brompton Hospital specialising in interstitial lung disease. I led the Respiratory team at UHS from 2018-20 during the global pandemic, where medicine bore the brunt of COVID admissions and deaths. I have been the PI for the RECOVERY trial at UHS since March 2020, this remains the largest global COVID trial and has provided responsive evidence-based guidance for the management of COVID infection
I am currently the ILD specialist advisory group chair for the British Thoracic Society. I regularly lead the ILD MDT where the diagnosis and often management plan for these specialist cases are formulated. I teach and provide lectures locally, nationally and internationally.
I have an extensive research portfolio in ILD, supported by the research team at UHS. As a ‘hands on’ clinician this enabled me to offer treatment options through research trials to patients where they may not be options available on the NHS.
Leading research enables me to at the cutting edge of novel treatment options and enable experience prior to NHS launch.
I achieved a National Clinical Impact Award in 2025 as a public acknowledgement of my sustained commitment and dedication to the NHS and a recognition of the national impact of my efforts over and above my contractual requirements.
