Specialises in
I am a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at University Hospital Southampton, where I have worked since 2016. My specialist areas of interest are in complex coronary intervention and transcatheter valve therapies and I currently lead the University Hospital’s transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) service. As well as being the Trust’s Joint Clinical Lead for cardiomyopathy.
Having qualified in medicine from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2003, previously completed a BSc in Physiology at University College London in 2001. My postgraduate medical training was undertaken across several leading London teaching hospitals and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2007 and completed a Research Doctorate (MD (Res)) at King’s College London in 2012 under the supervision of Professor Sanjay Sharma.
My doctoral research explored the cardiac response to exercise in Afro-Caribbean athletes and helped shape my ongoing specialist interest in cardiomyopathy, particularly the distinction between physiological athletic adaptation and underlying cardiac disease.
I completed my Interventional cardiology training at University Hospital Southampton and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. I have been published widely on cardiac adaptation to exercise and complex coronary intervention and am a regular faculty member at national and international cardiology meetings. Previously I have served as Regional Lead for Heart Valve Disease on the Southeast Regional Network Board and continue to contribute at a national level as a core committee member of Valve for Life.
Alongside my clinical and academic work, I am a keen athlete, having competed at national and international levels in triathlon and athletics. My sporting achievements include a top ten age-group finish at the ½ IRONMAN UK Championships in 2023. Outside of work, I enjoy cycling and running, when time allows, and is often found supporting my two sons from the sidelines at their sporting events.
