When I started my medical career I knew right from the start that dermatology was the subject for me because it is a visual specialty. I also trained in general surgery for some time which sparked my interest in dermatological surgery. I have been trained in two 'systems' in Germany and the UK and therefore I have been able to develop a different horizon on healthcare issues.
I would like to develop a better system for screening skin cancer with the engagement of local GPs and improve general teaching and training in dermatology for all healthcare professionals. I am greatly involved in the teaching of students, GPs, junior doctors and nurses at Southampton University Hospitals Trust (SUHT) and in primary care.

Personal profile
I am a keen skiier and used to participate in ski racing in Germany until I was 17. I am also very interested in music and in particular fusion jazz and Latin music.
Parts of my family roots go back to a little village in Austria and most of my ancestors on my mothers side were farmers. On my fathers side we had a lot of small trade business people such as upholsterers, furniture makers etc. I have a brother who is an accomplished general and cosmetic surgeon and most of my extended family went into academic professions.
I speak both English and German as my native language and some French and Spanish.
