Shoulder and elbow pain are common problems that can be caused by a wide range of issues:

  • Poor posture
  • Frozen shoulder – caused by severe inflammation of the capsule (connective tissue) that surrounds the shoulder joint.
  • Rotator cuff injury – injury in the group of four muscles surrounding the shoulder joint that stabilise and maximise movement in the shoulder.
  • Tennis and golfer’s elbow - also known as lateral epicondylitis or medial epicondylitis, are both conditions that come from a degeneration of the tendon that attaches the muscles of the forearm to the elbow.
  • Joint disorders – including osteoarthritis
  • Broken bones – including fracture of the humerus (the upper arm bone) or collar bone.

Shoulder pain can also be caused by problems in other areas of the body, such as the neck and upper back.
