I qualified from the Christian Medical College, Vellore in South India and came to England after my house jobs. Having done my general surgical training in the Midlands and in London, I then became a specialist surgical registrar on the St Thomas's Hospital rotation.
I continued with my surgical training at St Thomas's doing my research and senior registrar jobs at this institution. I trained in coloproctology at St Mark's Hospital as an RSO for a year and then worked in Portsmouth as a senior registrar.
I was a consultant at the Mayday Hospital in Croydon for two years, after which I returned to Portsmouth as a consultant colorectal surgeon.
My special interests include; colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, rectal prolapse and pilonidal disease.
I am a reader of Portsmouth University and chairman of the Research and Audit Committee of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
