Shaun Hardcastle, 58, had a total hip replacement with consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Aaron Ng.

As a keen walker and cyclist Shaun started to notice pain in his hip which increased over time. Following a visit to his GP it was suggested he went for blood tests and an x-ray. Shaun was shocked when the x-ray showed he may need a hip replacement. He felt that at 58 he was far too young to be needing this type of surgery. Shaun didn’t want to be on pain killers, so opted for surgery.

Shaun comments of his experience of the hospital and operation: "Much better than I expected. I was given written information and choices were available to me.”

How does he feel now?

"Very good- mobile and pain free. I no longer take medication""

Shaun is now cycling for longer and feels he can do a full days work again.
