Miss Parveen Abedin
Consultant Gynaecologist
MBBS, MSc, FRCOG
Specialises in
After graduating from medical school in 1992, I completed my postgraduate training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Birmingham. My training in general obstetrics & gynaecology was followed by further training in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery at major laparoscopic training centres in the UK. I've also undertaken a travelling fellowship to the USA to learn laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
My main interests are in general gynaecology including menstrual disorders, pelvic pain and endometriosis and am most skilled at laparoscopic (keyhole) hysterectomies, thus allowing patients to go home within a day of surgery. I'm proficient at removal of even large ovarian cysts with keyhole surgery and also complex open pelvic surgery for severe endometriosis.
I also have a special interest in gynaecological cancers, and am now involved in screening for cervical and ovarian cancer and the treatment of patients with bleeding after the menopause. I also do surgery for cancers of the womb and cervix.
I have a busy NHS practice based at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital.
I am proud to have published several articles in peer reviewed journals and have written a book on the MRCOG examination. I regularly attend Birmingham University where I hold post as a senior clinical examiner for medical students. I also examines for the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and teach on courses for the MRCOG part II examination.
