One of my key objectives is to support the improvement of cancer pain services, which I feel passionately about. I am proficient in all aspects of back and neck pain management and I routinely perform epidural injections, nerve root blocks, cervical/thoracic/lumbar facet joint injections and medial branch blocks. I also perform sacroiliac joint injections, trochanteric bursa, occipital nerve and trigger point injections.
The majority of oncology patients have their pain well managed using traditional drugs by mouth, however, in 10-20% of patients, intolerable side effects are experienced including; drowsiness, confusion, constipation, nausea, and itchy skin. Interventional pain management techniques can be highly effective and have fewer side effects and I am the only person the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust to administer pain management injections for oncology patients.
I am currently the clinical lead (pain management) at Solihull, Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals. I was also appointed an Honorary Research Fellow at Solihull Pain Research Clinic, which has given me a unique insight into the management of complex painful conditions.
I trained locally in the West Midlands and understand the needs of the local population. I was also awarded FFPMRCA, the benchmark qualification recognised by the Faculty of Pain Management (Royal College of Anaesthetists).
