Professional profile

I aim to provide the highest quality of physiotherapy to women with symptoms related to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. This includes conservative treatment and advice for bladder, bowel problems and prolapse. I currently work part-time as a aims to provide the highest quality of physiotherapy to women with symptoms related to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. This includes conservative treatment and advice for bladder, bowel problems and prolapse I currently work part-time as a Specialist Physiotherapist in the Functional Bowel Service in Leicester. Before moving to Leicester I worked in a busy teaching hospital in Glasgow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In this post an interest in pelvic floor muscle training and its effect on management of pelvic organ prolapse developed. Research links with Glasgow Caledonian University were established and are still strong. I have been actively involved in researching the role of pelvic floor muscle exercises in the management of pelvic organ prolapse and was the lead clinician in the recently published POPPY Study (Lancet 2014). I am now a co-tutor on a course for Physiotherapists on 'Understanding Pelvic Organ Prolapse' which is organised by POGP. I am also involved in the update of Cochrane review on conservative management of pelvic organ prolapse. Services provided at Spire Leicester Hospital: Individualised assessment and advice for; urinary incontinence; pelvic organ prolapse; faecal incontinence and obstructed defaecation/difficult or incomplete bowel emptying. Pelvic floor muscle assessment and re-training including use of manual therapy, muscle stimulation and biofeedback as appropriate.
