Specialises in
Virtual consultations:
I have been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist since 2011 although all of my workload is in gynaecology as of February 2019. I have special interests in Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy care as well as Ambulatory gynaecology (outpatient hysteroscopic procedures). In addition to these specialist areas, I am a general gynaecologist and a safe surgeon with low complication rates. I can perform all routine gynaecological procedures as well a keyhole surgery for many procedures.
I have developed expert skills hysteroscopic procedures in an outpatient setting – such as MyoSure resection of submucous fibroids and polyps and endometrial ablation with NovaSure. I perform outpatient hysteroscopy for all indications and use a non-touch technique to minimise discomfort during the procedure. I have very high levels of patient satisfaction.
I am an expert in minimal access surgery, both Hysteroscopic and Laparoscopic. I am highly skilled in advanced hysteroscopy performing MyoSure removal of endometrial polyps and submucous fibroids on at least 20 patients per month. I am also skilled in laparoscopic surgery and regularly perform numerous laparoscopic procedures such as removal of tubes and or ovaries, removal of cysts, treatment of mild to moderate endometriosis, tubal surgery and laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy for suitable cases. I also perform in excess of 30 major open operations every year particularly hysterectomies (abdominal and vaginal) and prolapse repairs as well as myomectomies. I always follow up all my patients so I can be certain that my complication rates are low and satisfaction rates are extremely high.
I have extremely high success rates in managing pain with sexual intercourse, particularly vaginismus.
I have been Head of Service for Gynaecology since January 2017, responsible for the gynaecology service development and maintenance.
I was the clinical audit lead for five years in the department at LRI and jointly with my counterpart at Leicester General Hospital we ensured improvement in quality of care through a rigorous audit process. In 2014, we won audit team of the year in the Trust. I am Joint Guideline Lead in Gynaecology at Leicester University Hospitals. I am actively involved in teaching and am an educational supervisor.
When you meet me, you can expect to meet a compassionate consultant who is easy to talk to about anything. I will talk to you in terms you can understand and will explain options of treatment without any pressure. At your first appointment, I will ask you what your problem is and allow you the time you need to express your concerns and anxieties. I will then ask you about your other relevant medical history and medications that you take. Following this, I may need to examine you – on the tummy and internally with a speculum and digital examination. A chaperone will also be present. Some investigations may be carried out during the examination and I will explain this beforehand.
