Our oncology team

First and foremost our dedicated team recognise that being diagnosed with cancer is one of the toughest things most of us will ever face. Our team’s purpose is to provide excellent clinical care, personal support and expert information.

Patients at Spire Leeds Hospital are under the care of a specialist consultant from the time of their first appointment. As and when required, they can be referred to a number of different specialists at the hospital who are all experienced in treating patients with cancer.  This wider team includes specialists in the following:

Clinical and medical oncology
Breast surgery
Colorectal surgery
Plastic and reconstructive surgery
Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery
Upper gastrointestinal surgery
Thoracic surgery
Respiratory medicine
Lymphoedema treatment
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation

Patients having cancer treatment at Spire Leeds are usually referred to an MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) for treatment planning.

The oncologist team consists of five highly experienced consultant oncologists who work at the Bexley Unit, Leeds Trust, Bradford Foundation Trust and Mid Yorkshire Trust aswell as three consultant haematologists and one consultant in palliative care.

The hospital regularly receives referrals from consultants outside of the area and from all over the UK and abroad. The hospital’s chemotherapy service is consultant-led. Patients see a consultant at every review consultation and the oncologist is on 24-hour call for the patient.  Members of the hospital’s specialist oncology nursing team, specialist breast care team and lymphoedema nurse specialist and physiotherapists are also closely involved with every step of the patient’s treatment.
