Mr Michael Hemming of Romford, Essex, had total knee replacement surgery at Spire Hartswood Hospital, Brentwood, Essex in November 2010.

Here is Mr Hemming’s letter of thanks to the hospital staff for looking after him during his stay.

"I underwent a total knee replacement operation in your hospital on 17 November performed by Mr Sunil Kumar and was a patient with you until Sunday 21 (November).

In the 12 operations I have undergone since 1993 in private hospitals in this area, I have not always found the highest level of professionalism, care, friendliness and quality of food. In some cases I have had cause to complain.

I must therefore commend you and your staff on the high standards of care and friendliness I received from the moment I arrived in the hospital until I was discharged.

Everyone I came into contact with was friendly and professional. There was a genuine team spirit between all areas – nurses, physiotherapists, caterers, receptionists and domestic staff, something that is not always seen.

Not one person entered my room without a smile on their face and, with the confidence all exuded, I was made to feel totally at ease, comfortable and relaxed.

The nursing care was the best I have ever experienced on every shift. The caterers went far beyond what would normally be expected, particularly on the day of my wife’s birthday, and the quality of all the food I ate was excellent.

I wish to thank you very much and ask that your staff be made aware that at least one patient feels they are brilliant."

Yours sincerely,

M J Hemming.
