When Carolyn was considering where to go for her hernia operation, a relative suggested Spire Hartswood Hospital because they had received good care there. So Carolyn decided to find out about the hospital herself and booked an appointment with Mr Arikoge Ogedegbe, Consultant General and Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon.

“I got my appointment quickly and I was seen on time, said Carolyn. “You’re in, you’re out - it’s like clockwork.”

The pace did not slow down when it came to arranging the surgery. “Mr Ogedegbe said to me ‘I’ll see you in July’ – and I saw him in June,” remembered Carolyn.” It was the same with the operation, which took place in the afternoon – the nurse said I would be out by 8.30pm and I was.”

Carolyn was equally as enthusiastic about the other staff caring for her: “From reception and the hostesses, to the nurses, operating department practitioners and anaesthetist, they're such a good team, it’s incredible.”

She went on: “I didn’t have time to think about what they were doing – I forgot I was having surgery!”

Continuing care

The good care carried on after Carolyn was home and suffered pain in her shoulders. Her husband rang the out-of-hours number for advice, but what really impressed Carolyn was when the phone rang at home and it was Mr Ogedegbe himself, asking her how she was.

Two weeks later, Carolyn had her final consultation with the surgeon and three weeks later she was back at work and, just as importantly, back to normal and lifting again without worrying about her hernia.

Her advice to anyone considering treatment at Spire Hartswood Hospital? “I’d totally recommend it.”
