Professional profile

I am a Consultant Surgeon at Broomfield Hospital. Within the Department of General Surgery,I am the Lead Surgeon for Pelvic Floor Surgery and Surgical Site Infections.

Since my appointment, I have initiated advanced robotic surgery using the da Vinci robot for pelvic floor conditions and I am one of the most experienced surgeons in this type of robotic surgery in the country. Broomfield Hospital is the only centre in Essex performing robotic operations and is a BUPA preferred centre for robotic surgery. This extensive robotic surgical experience has now been used for other colorectal operations including surgery for cancer. I have introduced new and innovative therapies for faecal incontinence and constipation.

Despite my background as a surgeon, I have extensive knowledge in medical problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, pelvic pain and Pruritus ani (anal itch) without which, I feel, I would not be able to manage complex surgical issues.

I have developed academic links with Anglia Ruskin University and I am currently involved in surgical research projects in the fields of colorectal cancer and surgical infections. I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the university and I am the GI module tutor for the MSc in minimal invasive surgery.

I graduated from St. Georges Hospital Medical School, London and later undertook research at the University of London studying methods trying to improve the detection of colorectal cancer spread for which I was awarded a MD thesis.I completed his specialist surgical training in the North East Thames Higher Surgical Training programme. Mr Siddiqi obtained further advanced training in Castle Hill Hospital, Hull and Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand. In Hull, which is a leading pelvic floor centre, I undertook a Pelvic Floor Fellowship. Subsequently, I obtained the rare accreditation for Sacral Nerve Stimulation from this unit. In New Zealand, I worked as a Laparoscopic Fellow at a busy innovative unit specialising in keyhole surgery.

I am on the editorial board for the Journal of Robotic Surgery.

Operations carried out in last 3 years - 100 Robotic colorectal operations (Pelvic floor repair and cancer); 90 Laparoscopic colorectal operations (Benign and cancer); 100 Laparoscopic Hernia repairs; 300 Colonoscopy
