The event will cover several topics related to Orthopaedics in primary care: 

  1. Hip update, by Mr Drabu
  2. Shoulder replacement surgery - when, why and how, by Mr Phadnis
  3. How to assess the spine, by Mr Marsh
  4. Ankle and hindfoot pathology: the modern approach, by Mr Freeman

The talks are based around these learning objectives:


  • Describe indications for shoulder replacement surgery
  • Understand the different types of shoulder replacement and when each might be appropriate
  • Understand the outcomes and what the patients can expect


  • Pick up signs of impending danger
  • Appreciate how we use guidelines
  • Updates on recent developments in the field of spinal surgery

Foot and Ankle

  • Understand the causes of ankle and hindfoot problems
  • Understand what can be done in primary care
  • Understand what can be offered with surgery

  • 9.15am: Hip presentation
  • 10.00am: Shoulder presentation
  • 10.45am: Break
  • 11.15am: Back presentation
  • 12.00pm: Foot and Ankle presentation
  • 12.45pm: End of lectures
