Specialises in
I have worked as a Consultant Nephrologist at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital since 2012. I worked at the Spire Hospital in Tunbridge Wells from 2019 to 2024 and currently work at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital. I have extensive experience in treating kidney patients with over 14 years at consultant level. My consultation style aims to address the individual needs of patients and to provide advice on patient specific investigations and treatment.
After graduating from Aberdeen University in 1997, I completed my specialist training in some of London's top teaching hospitals. I was awarded a diploma in medical education from University College London and went on to hold the role of training programme director for core medical training at Guys' and St Thomas' Hospital between 2015 and 2018, and I am still very involved in training junior doctors. I have a research MD from the University of London and I have published in a range of peer-reviewed journals. My current clinical research interests relate to dialysis treatment and managing advanced kidney disease.
I investigate and advise treatment for the following conditions: high blood pressure, renovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic glomerular disorders, conditions presenting with blood and protein in the urine and cardiovascular disease prevention in chronic kidney disease. I have a particular interest in dialysis and I can provide advice and guidance on patients receiving dialysis treatment and wanting to know more information about dialysis, but I do not provide the dialysis in my practice.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Nicola Kumar at Spire include:
