Nutrition and dietetics

Discuss your issues with a registered dietitian and nutritionist

Nutrition and dietetics at Spire Dunedin Hospital

This service is provided by Jasmine Challis, a registered dietitian and nutritionist with over 25 years of experience in both the NHS and private sectors. She has an honours degree in nutrition and a postgraduate diploma in dietetics. She is also a member of the British Dietetic Association and the Nutrition Society.

Jasmine's role is to give practical, realistic advice on how to change nutritional intake to improve health. Advice on the structure and implementation of eating plans is available for many conditions including weight loss, weight gain, diabetes (type 1 and 2), the coeliac condition, eating disorders, PCOS and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Jasmine is also a sports dietitian on the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register and as such can offer advice on training and performance eating plans for sport and dance.

Appointments with Jasmine

Jasmine Challis - Dietitian

Jasmine takes referrals from consultants, GPs and, depending on the situation, some self-referrals. Currently outpatient appointments take place usually on a Monday morning although this does vary at times.

The initial consultation will take between 45 minutes and an hour. Follow up sessions last 20-30 minutes. Most patients will be seen for an initial consultation and usually one or two follow-up sessions. For those with private medical insurance these should be covered but it is advisable to check the exact details with your insurance company.

Inpatients will normally be seen in their rooms and relevant family members are welcome to be present at the session.
