Mr Andrew James is the Consultant Podiatrist / MSK Specialist at the Spire Cardiff Hospital. He has been qualified for 21 years and has worked exclusively in the private sector for the last 15 years.

During this time he has worked with many top professional sports organisations including The WRU, ECB, Puma and a number of premier league football clubs.

Whilst he has built an enviable reputation for his work in sport, Andrew has a number of areas of special interest including:

He now practices exclusively at the Spire Cardiff Hospital, is responsible for a number of premier league football clubs, professional rugby clubs and continues his innovative work with the Emirates Airline in Dubai.

Women’s health

Pelvic health physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of all disorders affecting the pelvis and pelvic floor. The pelvic floor is a complex structure made up of muscles that extend from the pubic bone at the front to the coccyx and sacrum at the back.

It helps to support the pelvic organs above and to keep us continent through co-ordinated contraction and release. Problems may occur when these muscles are either too weak or over-active.

Causes of pelvic floor dysfunction:

  • Long-term constipation
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Increased weight
  • Repeated heavy lifting
  • Menopause
  • Chronic coughing.

Physiotherapy can help to alleviate and, in many cases, cure symptoms linked to pelvic floor dysfunction.

Many women are not aware that help is available. We understand that sensitive issues around the pelvic floor or bladder and bowels can be an embarrassing topic to discuss but you will be offered a personal and professional service in a private hospital setting.

What we treat

Specialist pelvic health physiotherapists have the knowledge and skills to help you understand your symptoms and how you can improve them. At Perform Cardiff, we treat the following conditions:

  • Pelvic floor weakness
  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Urgency and urge incontinence
  • Inability to control wind or stool
  • Pelvic pain
  • Prolapse
  • Overactive pelvic floor
  • Separation of abdominal muscles (Diastasis rectus abdominis muscle)
  • Sexual issues such as dyspareunia (pain during intercourse) and erectile dysfunction
  • Constipation
  • Coccyx pain.

Women of all ages can benefit from our services and we specifically offer support for antenatal and postnatal women after their six-week check. We also support women in preparation for and to aide recovery from pelvic and gynaecological surgery.

To book an appointment please call 029 2073 1112.

Isokinetic testing

Access to Isokinetic muscle strength testing at Perform Cardiff.

Isokinetic testing allows physiotherapists and consultants to analyse muscle strength and performance, most frequently of the knees and shoulders. This is important to allow the physiotherapist or consultant to be able to establish the quality of muscle contraction and therefore build a rehabilitation programme that is tailored for your recovery.

Whether you are recovering from an operation or looking to return to normal activity following an injury, having an isokinetic test will allow your physiotherapist to plan your rehabilitation specifically for you. We have often used this diagnostic technology to treat leading sports people, such as the Cardiff Blues and Ospreys rugby players, to aid their return to playing.

The clinic is led by our Physiotherapist Matt Wimberely.

To arrange an initial appointment with a physiotherapist please call us on 029 2073 1112.
