He has been a consultant for 20 years and has extensive experience in all aspects of lower limb surgery (including hip / knee surgery). He is well qualified to offer advice in all aspects of lower limb orthopaedic surgery. His specialist field is hip and knee replacement surgery, particularly hip replacement and revision hip replacement surgery.

He also has an interest in joint replacement in the young adult and in complex hip joint replacement surgery, and has performed resurfacing hip replacement for a number of years. He believes it is essential for the modern day joint replacement surgeon to maintain their level of expertise by performing high volume surgery. All patients are reviewed for life. He is the Senior Hip Surgeon at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
At undergraduate level Tim trained in Cardiff, and qualified in 1986. He performed the early part of his surgical training in South Wales before performing his specialist training in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne between 1991 and 1996. He then completed a specialist hip replacement fellowship in Chicago, USA. Mr Owen performs all types of hip replacement according to the patients needs including resurfacing replacements, uncemented, cemented and hybrid hip replacements. He is a trained specialist Revision Hip and Knee Replacement Surgeon, and is referred complex primary joint replacements and revision hip and knee replacements by numerous colleagues in South Wales. Tim has also trained Registrars in Joint Replacement on the All Wales Orthopaedic Training Programme for a number of years.
As well as joint replacement, Tim still maintains a General Orthopaedic Practice including Trauma Surgery, participating in regular on calls at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
