Virtual consultations:
I presently specialise in all aspects of knee surgery and trauma surgery. After the basic qualification in 1984, I started general surgical training in 1987 and training in orthopaedics in 1991 and became a consultant in 1996 and have been a specialist in my field, therefore, for almost 20 years. I have a specific interest in knee ligament and knee reconstruction surgery, as well as all forms of knee replacement - including partial knee replacements. I am particularly interested in the treatment of early arthritis or knee instability by correction of deformity using osteotomy around the knee. I am Orthopaedic Surgeon to Cardiff City Football Club and Swansea City Football Club, and have also been referred many players for opinions and surgery by the Ospreys, Scarlets and the Welsh Rugby Union.
I specialise in orthopaedic surgery, with a specific interest in injuries to the knee and also replacement of the knee. I am interested in the possibilities of mitigating and circumventing osteoarthritic change in the knee by early rebalancing and realignment of the knee joint by realignment surgery.
I have performed over 350 high tibial osteotomies which is a large number by UK standards and perform over 60 anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions per year, as well as over 100 total or partial knee replacements per year.
I have previously been lead surgeon in our Trust. I have been editorial secretary in the past for British Association for Surgery of the Knee.
I am Honorary Professor of Biomechanics at Cardiff University and I am a Senior Lecturer in Cardiff University. I work closely with the Department of Bioscience in Cardiff University and am a joint grant holder on a number of high value, high profile grants involved in the investigation of the root causes of osteoarthritis.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Christopher Wilson at Spire include:

I am also interested in deformity correction surgery, particularly osteotomy around the knee.

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, University Hospital of Wales.
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, University Hospital Llandough.
I enjoy cycling and going to the gym. My three children are fully grown, the youngest being 17 and doing A-levels and I expect, therefore, to stop being a part-time chauffeur in the near future, and to support them as best I can in their various career and life plans. I enjoy my work very much and spend a lot of time there and I enjoy travel, most recently having been to various countries in Africa, both as a tourist and also as a visiting surgeon.
