I have wide experience in gastroenterology and deal with a broad range of gastrointestinal disorders including dyspepsia (indigestion, acid, ulcer disorders), diarrhoeal disorders (colitis, crohns disease, coeliac disease), functional bowel disorders (abdominal pain, bloating, altered bowel habits), gastrointestinal cancer. I undertake a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy.
I have done thousands of upper GI endoscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies and Colonoscopies. I also undertake various therapeutic endoscopic procedures including removal of colonic polyps. I see thousands of patients with various gastrointestinal disorders every year. I routinely collect patient satisfaction and outcome data to constantly improve my practice.
I am the clinical lead for the endoscopy unit at Spire Cardiff hospital and with a team of very dedicated staff and supportive management got the new endoscopy unit JAG (Joint advisory group for gastrointestinal endoscopy) accredited in year 2016.
I have been a doctor for 22 years and a Consultant Gastroenterologist for more than 10 years. I completed my postgraduate and higher specialist training in UK. My NHS practice is based at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff where I do specialist gastroenterology clinics and endoscopy lists. I undertake research and currently involved in International clinical trials in Inflammatory bowel disease (Colitis, Crohn's disease). I am also actively involved in training postgraduate doctors in gastroenterology and endoscopy. I keep up-to-date with my knowledge and endoscopic skills by regularly attending International conferences.
I have an honorary title as teacher at the Cardiff University. As part of my NHS post I also teach medical students and deliver lectures to junior doctors and trainees attached to the South Wales training programme. I have also given lectures to general practitioners in South Wales, like National Institute for Health and Care excellence (NICE) guidelines on early cancer detection in gastroenterology.
I co-authored a chapter titled Modern Insights in to the aetiology of inflammatory bowel disease - awaiting publication.
