I am a Consultant in General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery at Addenbrookes Hospital and Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, providing advanced surgical care for patients across Cambridgeshire. I am also an Affiliated Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge, and the Specialty Lead for Colorectal Surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. My mission is to deliver safe, high-quality, holistic, patient-centered care with exceptional perioperative and oncological outcomes.
I specialise in robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci system, offering minimally invasive solutions for complex colorectal and general surgical conditions. At Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, I perform advanced robotic procedures for colorectal cancer, hernia repair and abdominal surgery, ensuring faster recovery, reduced pain, and superior precision compared to traditional techniques.
I am proficient in advanced minimally invasive surgery, including robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Following a pan-European competitive selection process, I was awarded the prestigious European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) Robotic Surgery Fellowship, through which I gained further advanced specialised experience in robotic surgery. I was the first surgeon to perform robotic surgery for general surgery and colorectal surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and I was instrumental in safely and effectively introducing robotic surgery at Addenbrooke’s hospital, with excellent surgical outcomes. My expertise ensures patients at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital benefit from cutting-edge technology and outstanding surgical outcomes.
I qualified in Medicine with MBBS from Imperial College London, where I also achieved a BSc in Surgery and Anaesthesia with First Class Honours. I completed my speciality surgical training in the prestigious North West London surgical rotation and trained in leading university teaching hospitals. Upon completion of my speciality surgical training, I was awarded Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) by the UK General Medical Council (GMC). I was successfully appointed as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Addenbrooke's Hospital, the teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge. I was privileged to become the Specialty Lead for Colorectal Surgery, leading one of the most established colorectal departments in the UK.
After successfully completing the Royal College of Surgeons of England exams, I was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS General Surgery). In addition, I have successfully completed the European Board of Surgical Qualification (EBSQ) examination leading to the Diploma of EBSQ (Coloproctology) and Fellowship of the European Board of Surgery. I am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS), Fellow of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. I am a Member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI), Member of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), Member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), and Member of the Association of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland (ALRSGBI).
I was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine from the University College London for my research into the optimal surgical management of colorectal cancer liver metastases. I have a strong interest and knowledge of evidence-based medical practice demonstrated by a Postgraduate Certificate in Evidence-Based Healthcare from University College London. I have completed a Master's Degree in Healthcare Ethics and Law, at Manchester University, School of Law, which has provided me with in-depth analysis and extensive understanding of every day moral and legal issues faced by a surgeon. I featured in national and international medical documentaries and interviews, including the BBC series: Surgeons: At The Edge Of Life.
I have published extensively in the scientific literature with over 100 peer-reviewed international journal publications and book chapters, and with over 5,000 citations. I was invited to give numerous national and international presentations at scientific conferences, and act as a reviewer for several high-impact peer-reviewed journals. I have been awarded multiple research grant awards, and I have been the principal investigator for numerous research projects. I have been the primary clinical and educational supervisor of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Previously, I held the titles of Honorary Clinical Research Fellow, and later, Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, at the Department of Surgery and Cancer, Imperial College London.
