Mr Richard Baker

I am a specialist joint replacement consultant surgeon and have worked at Spire Bristol Hospital and The Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital since 2012. I have dedicated my entire career to orthopaedic surgery and research since graduating from Manchester University in 1999. 

I subsequently trained in joint replacement surgery in Bristol and completed fellowship training in the prestigious Vancouver joint replacement unit. I perform over 400 joint replacements a year. I specialise in both primary hip and knee replacements, I offer hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, revision hip replacement and revision knee replacement surgery.

During my career, I have published many articles on orthopaedic disease and speak at medical conferences. I am currently the advisory editor of Hip International having been its Editor-in-Chief for six years previously. I train local trainee surgeons in joint replacement surgery and run the fellowship program at Southmead Hospital.

I pride myself on my warm bedside manner and ability to offer patient-centred joint replacement surgery in partnership with consultant anaesthetist, Dr Steve Tolchard. Together, we have performed in excess of 4500 joint replacements since 2012.
