I undertake all aspects of surgery of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas. I have specialist experience and all expertise in repairing complications of gallbladder surgery, surgery for complex abdominal tumours and sarcomas and radical resection of bile duct cancer. I also have a special interest in the surgical treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Other special interests include bile ducts surgery, liver surgery, pancreas surgery, hernia repair, laparoscopic surgery, liver disease, minimal access surgery, pancreatic and biliary surgery and pancreatology.
I trained at King's College London and qualified in 1995. I also undertook my surgical training there and in South East London and Kent. During my training I held an academic appointment with King's College London as a Lecturer in surgery. Having spent my formative years at a leading international centre for the treatment of liver disease, I decided at an early stage to pursue a career in liver and pancreatic surgery.
I spent my last few years of training at Addenbrooke's Hospital (Cambridge University Hospitals). This included a fellowship in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery and a two year fellowship in solid organ transplantation, which included training in liver, pancreas, kidney and intestinal transplantation.
I held the post of Clinical Director for Theatres at University Hospital Bristol until December 2018.
In addition to my clinical work, I am also actively researching and involved in several National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) grants. I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol.
