I am a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon at Spire Bristol and am passionate about the improvements in health and wellbeing that weight loss surgery provides.

I provide all types of laparoscopic (keyhole) weight loss procedures including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding. I perform revision procedures such as band adjustment or replacement or conversion to different operations. I also perform endoscopic intragastric balloon placement.

I have performed over 300 major weight loss procedures and have developed an outstanding national-leading enhanced recovery programme. I am dedicated to improving outcomes in surgery and have an excellent safety profile as published nationally via the Surgeon Specific Outcome data available on the National Bariatric surgery registry.

I also provide state-of-the-art laparoscopic surgery of gallstone disease, acid reflux and hiatus hernia and other types of hernia surgery, usually performed as day case or enhanced recovery short stay. I perform upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to investigate causes of dyspepsia (indigestion) and abdominal pain.

I work within the team at Spire Bristol that includes an expert dietitian and practitioner as well as a nationally renowned psychologist who give a holistic package and outstanding support throughout this life changing process.

My NHS practise is at Southmead Hospital which is the regional tertiary referral Bariatric centre.

I am particularly interested in education and debunking many of the myths and prejudice surrounding obesity and I give regular teaching to GPs and other healthcare professionals. I am also a devoted trainer of local and visiting surgeons.
