I attained my certificate of completion of training in Neurology in November 2021. I have unique experience and expertise in dizziness and balance (vestibular) disorders. In parallel with my clinical work, I am engaged in research, including a recent post-doctoral fellowship at University College London investigating the link between balance and the ageing of small vessels in the brain (cerebral small vessel disease).
I am a Consultant Neurologist working at North Bristol NHS Trust. In this role, I work with both the stroke and neurology departments. My work involves managing inpatients and outpatients with a broad range of neurological diseases. I recently led on, and helped develop, our secondary care service for advanced treatments in migraine (Botox and calcitonin gene-related peptide treatments). In this role, I reduced waits for eligible patients to access advanced migraine treatments, developed referral pathways, and have worked to increase patient access in the regional NHS to advanced migraine treatments. Aligned with this experience, I have interest and expertise in seeing patients with dizziness and balance problems (vestibular disorders).
I studied medicine at the University of Cambridge. I later trained in neurology in Bristol, where I was awarded a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Fellowship in Neurology. Within this fellowship, I conducted research with the Bristol neuro-inflammatory diseases group. I then completed a clinical research fellowship and PhD at Imperial College London, investigating the link between dizziness and small vessel disease while gaining expertise in the management of dizziness and balance disorders. I was awarded the Hallpike (national) prize for research excellence for this work. Thereafter, I applied for, and succeeded in obtaining, a personal (Guarantors of Brain, UK) post-doctoral research fellowship award to advance my interest in small vessel disease effects on balance control, which I completed at University College London. I continue to undertake collaborative research with colleagues at University College London.
My free time is mostly spent with my family, and playing badminton both socially and competitively (league).
