Consultant Cardiologist
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Daniel Augustine at Spire include:
I am a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal United Hospital Bath and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the Bristol Heart Institute. I am the current national guideline lead for the British Society of Echocardiography. I specialise in cardiovascular imaging and I am one of a few cardiologists in the UK accredited in advanced heart ultrasound scans (echocardiography) and cardiac MRI. In addition to imaging, I also specialises in invasive cardiology (diagnostic coronary angiography and pulmonary hypertension).
I am the author and editor of national and international cardiology textbooks. This in combination with my role as national guideline lead for the British Society of Echocardiography means that I stay up-to-date with contemporary practice, using the latest evidence and guidelines. This allows me to give a modern and expert opinion on a wide range of cardiological presentations
I had rare accreditation in both advanced echocardiography (transthoracic echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography) and cardiac MRI. I am proficient in all aspects of modern echocardiography, including 3D echocardiography. I also has expertise in stress echocardiography and have lead on the introduction of the exercise stress echocardiography service in Bath. I have co-lead on the implementation of the cardiac MRI service in Bath.
I undertake diagnostic coronary angiography and I am also a member of the regional pulmonary hypertension team, a joint collaboration with the Royal Free Hospital, London. As part of the pulmonary hypertension service, I undertake invasive left and right heart cardiac catheters, helping to manage and treat patients with high pressures in their lung arteries.
I qualified in 2002 from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Medical School and completed my cardiology training in the South West. I have undertaken a cardiovascular imaging research fellowship at the University of Oxford, leading to my MD degree.
